![]() ![]() I love that these movies are clearly written by people who are fans of the genre themselves. ![]() People who know enough about the human body to make other people uncomfortable.Īnd I love that. People who can guess the killer in most slashers within five minutes. People who have seen everything John Carpenter, Tom Holland, Wes Craven and George Romero have ever made. Most Final Girls, after all, don’t manage to save anyone but themselves.Ībove all that, though, I loved Scream VI for the same reason I’ve loved the entire series (in varying degrees). Not just a Final Girl, but better than that. And while she’s certainly just as capable with a knife as her dad, she’s a hero. She would be the exact person most people would think should take up the Ghost Face mask and do some killing. She’s dealing with a lot of self-hatred, and coming to terms with who her family was. I also love the emotional growth from Sam. Anyone could be Ghost Face, so anyone in that crowd could be dangerous. The crowds of people around our main characters worked to increase anxiety. We’ve never seen Ghost Face in a big city before. I loved the addition of the New York setting. While I don’t think this movie was as good as Scream 5, it was still very fun. Not one Final Girl, and not one Ghost Face. It’s not dependent on just one character. I think that says a lot about the strength of the series. And honestly, I didn’t miss her that much. This was the only Scream film to not include Neve Campbell as Sidney. Fueled by vengeance, Ghost Face hunts our Core Four, as well as several familiar faces from Woodboro. It’s made even more difficult when a new Ghost Face shows up. This is made difficult by rumors that Sam was actually responsible for the latest mass murder in Woodsboro. There they’re attending college, and trying to move on with their lives as much as they can. After nearly being slaughtered by the latest Ghost Face, Richie, they’ve decided to move as a unit to New York. Our story starts with Sam and Tara Carpenter, along with Mindy and Chad Meeks-Martin. It was unique in the series in several ways, but still very much familiar for those of us who know and love the series. Released in March of this year, Scream VI was a continuation of Scream V from last year. I think we are all a bit Captain Howdy in some aspect. Did Snider go a bit too far in insane isolation? Give the movie a whirl and find out. (For the record: If you are on his show enough to have your GPS listing the target house as a ‘favourite’ then you might want to rethink your life choices.) It taps into those fears and gives us a bit of a ‘look at me!’ type venture.Ĭan you identify with Snider’s character of Captain Howdy? Isn’t that the sign of a good writer? No matter how much of a monster the villain is, there is something identifiable about the man. The movie feeds in on our fears of the online creepoid stalking the net waiting to meet either a young girl/boy or Chris Hansen. Snider writes this film which is part creepfest and part warning of a pre-dawn internet free for all. This movie made me see Dee Snider in a different way. ![]() ![]() I remember seeing Twisted Sister live with Sebastian Bach before and stuff like that sticks with you (in a good or bad way). What brought me to the movie was Dee Snider. I think I had to rob a RedBox to watch it. ‘Stay away from Captain Howdy.’ That is the lyric, isn’t it? I saw Strangeland a few years ago. ![]()
